Item Perception of social media use for information service delivery in university libraries: a case study of Kenneth Dike Library, University of Ibadan(2022-12) Ilo, P. I.; Izuagbe, R.; Iroaganachi, M. A.As one of the first university libraries to embrace ICT adoption in the country, it was necessary to ascertain how the library is faring in terms of digital services provision using social media tools. Methodology: The survey design was applied alongside the accidental/convenient sampling technique. The population comprised 300 library patrons and library personnel in KDL. The method of data gathering was the questionnaire. Two hundred and thirty-three (233:77.7%) response rate was observed. The descriptive and inferential statistical tools were applied. Findings: patrons were positive about the provision of certain services using SMTs, but in terms of actual use, there was a lack of interest. Similarly, there was a low frequency of the use of available SMTs in the library; however, Facebook was the most utilized SMT by patrons, followed by Blog. The paper concludes that it is not enough to deploy relevant SMTs but to develop patron-focused services that will endear patrons to use them. C.; Mabawonku, I.The incorporation of social media into service delivery by librarians is essential to render contemporary and seem-less library services to the users. Studies have shown that awareness and perception constitute important factors in the use of emerging technology for personal use with paucity of literature on the use of social media for library service delivery. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate the use of social media for service delivery by librarians in Southern Nigeria universities. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 669 librarians from the universities in Southern Nigeria. Total enumeration technique was adopted for the study. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics. Findings revealed that librarians used very few social media space for delivering library services. Low bandwidth, culminated in slow internet connection was the main challenge to the application of social media. A.; Otulugbu, D.Corona virus is a form of respiratory ailment that ravaged human health and social interaction. Since its emergence and subsequent spread to various countries of the world, various governments, organisations, agencies and individuals have been making frantic efforts to curtail the disease using different media. Prominent among the media being used is social media. However, the preliminary investigation of the researchers indicated that the social media are being wrongly used to disseminate information on the emergence, causes, prevention and curtailment of the disease particularly in a developing country like Nigeria. The need to address these challenges and to drum home the contribution of Library and Information Scientists necessitated this study. Self-structured questionnaire administered at various online fora (NLA, NALISE and individuals) was the instrument used for the collection of data among the library and information scientists (librarians and library and information science educators). Total enumeration technique was employed to cover all the 201 respondents that participated in the survey monkey conducted. The study found that varying social media were being used to disseminate information about COVID-19. It was reported that library and information scientists are playing active role in enlighten masses on the danger of COVID-19, and has established an enduring relationship with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on the importance of library use as change agents. The need for Library and Information Scientists to sustain the use of social media while rendering information services especially in the time of pandemic such as COVID-19 was recommended.
